Empowering education, fostering inclusivity, and building a sustainable future: the 2022 Erasmus+ Annual Report highlights a year of achievements

The 2022 Erasmus+ Annual Report, unveiled at the 6th European Education Summit, paints a vibrant picture of the program’s impact and contributions throughout the year. As a cornerstone of the European Union’s commitment to education, Erasmus+ has not only met its annual objectives but has exceeded expectations in various dimensions, fostering inclusivity, sustainability, and a stronger European identity.

With a total budget of €4 billion, the program supported 26,000 projects, benefitting over 73,000 organizations. However, the true measure of Erasmus+ lies in its reach to individuals — the program provided learning mobility activities to more than 1.2 million students, learners, professors, teachers, trainers, youth workers, and young people.

Erasmus+ demonstrated its commitment to inclusivity and diversity by actively supporting 134,000 people with fewer opportunities. This inclusive approach extends to individuals with disabilities, migrants, and EU citizens facing socio-economic challenges or residing in remote areas. By breaking down barriers and ensuring access for all, Erasmus+ is fostering a more equitable educational landscape across Europe.

Recognizing the urgency of environmental issues, Erasmus+ dedicated 1,300 cooperation projects with a total budget of €592 million to support environmental and climate change initiatives. This commitment underscores the program’s alignment with the green transition, contributing to a sustainable future.

Simultaneously, Erasmus+ has been a driving force in the digital transition within education. Over 1,650 cooperation projects, backed by an overall budget of €744 million, align with the Digital Education Action Plan. This collective vision seeks to establish high-quality, inclusive, and accessible digital education across Europe, preparing students and educators for the challenges of the digital era.

Beyond its tangible impact on education, Erasmus+ plays a pivotal role in reinforcing European identity and values. A significant portion of the 2022 budget, totaling €340 million, funded 1,200 cooperation projects aimed at supporting democratic participation. By facilitating collaboration and understanding across borders, Erasmus+ contributes to the creation of a more democratic and united European Union.
